UFO CHALLENGE - STARTS OCTOBER 1, 2012

UFO CHALLENGE
October 1, 2012
thru
September 30, 2013

I really need to some of my UFOs completed. The last few years, I always seem to get started on a quilt and then I get bored and/or see another quilt I want to make. The other problem I have is BLOCK OF THE MONTHS (BOM)! I seem to JOIN them all the time!

Well, as you know, I have 75 UFOs. I know I CANNOT complete all 75 UFOs in a year. But I would like to at least get 10 done in a year.

So I thought why not start a challenge with others?

I hope you will join me…

Here's how it works...

1. Choose 10 of your UFOs.Then send me your list via email. Each month, from October 1, 2012 through September 1, 2013, I will choose a number **1-10 that is the UFO you will work on to complete during that month. November and December will not count as it is around the holidays and we all tend to get pretty busy.

**For example: if the number 5 is chosen in October, then we would work on whatever is #5 on our list. You have the month to finish the UFO. You will need to send me a picture of your completed quilt top and I will post a picture of  your quilt here(blog).

No pressure at all…you work at your own pace, finish what you can when you can. The idea is to try and get some UFOs out of the way.

Another THOUGHT came to mind! LOL …

Let’s make the CHALLENGE more ENTICING, on September 30, 2013, their name gets put in a basket and on October 1st, I will draw a winner.

**To be eligible, Quilt top MUST be from your list.

You do not have to participate in drawing. There are some of us that need a push to get those UFOs out and get completed.

**Exclusions: Not included in drawing are Doll quilts, Wall hangings, Quilt tops that need Borders, Sash and/or Binding and or even quilting.

Winner will receive a Gift Card to a Quilt Shop of their choice.

Is this enticing enough? =) Please Join us!

I will see you October 1st!

2012 "Mystery" Quilt-A-Long Quilt Completed!!!

I am doing the "Happy Feet" dance right now. I finished my quilt top. I think it came out pretty good without running out to buy fabrics. 8-)

I still have to quilt it but that won't be done until January. So this quilt will go on the piles of quilt tops to do in January.

A Whimsical Summer

The next "Mystery" will be in 2013. I haven't decided on the month but it will be soon. 8)

I didn't get to finish cleaning my studio yesterday. I have way too much STUFF to clear out and organize. I was only going to do the surface, but I ended up organizing drawers. Oh well at least its a start! Right????

For me, I am somewhat satisfied as I can see the top of my counters. YEAH!

Here are some pictures of what I have done.

I can actually see my ironing station. YEAH!
UFO's I am going or have been working on

Well at least I am on the right track right? 8)

Today I will be working on my "Mystery" Quilt-A-Long
I have decided what to name my quilt. "A Whimsical Summer"

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Agenda for the weekend!

Good morning everyone,

FALL is here! I cannot believe it! Where did our summer GO???
The leaves are starting to turn, flowers are getting their last blossoms out.

Anyway, my agenda for this weekend is:

- EQ7 lessons # 17 & 18. This was a CHALLENGE for me! Lessons are about how to "Pieced PatchDraw Blocks". I am so happy I came across this yahoo group. I am learning how to REALLY utilize the program. Here are pictures of lesson plans.

- Cleaning Sewing Studio...It is a MESS. I am dusting, organizing, tossing, etc...  Here are some pictures.

I have to make room for my "old" girl Misty. She is 13 years old has cancer. She likes to be around me whenever I am in my sewing studio.

I will post pictures of a CLEAN STUDIO. 8)

- Sewing UFOs. Hopefully I will get back to my sewing machine and finish off the "Mystery" Quilt-A-Long quilt. Here are pictures of my completed blocks.

I am still undecided as to what to do to complete. Here are my choices in fabrics:

For my borders

I think I want to use this green for sashing. Now what do I want to use for cornerstones? I have no clue. I better get on the ball cleaning so I can get this quilt done tomorrow. 8)

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone! 8)

My Virtual Wall Design

I have been looking for a "Virtual Wall Design" online so that with all my quilt projects, I can be able to see the progress for each project. It is a great way to stay focus and organize when working on 4-6 projects at a time. Well I don't have 4-6 empty walls in my studio!

I found this GREAT site MVQ "My Virtual Quilt". Its $10/year for you to create a library. How AWESOME is that???? I cannot tell you all the specifics as I just subscribed to MVQ but you can certain read about it below.  I will definitely be posting all my projects in MVQ. Click here to read more about it. I have also included a link at the top of my blog. My awesome FIND for the month! I will be using MVQ as my daily planner when I am in my sewing studio! 8)

Here is some info about MVQ.

Every quilters dream! Whether you have a large sewing area and a large design wall, or you have a small sewing area and no design wall, you are going to love this.  We have developed "My Virtual Quilt", a system whereby you can take a photo of your block(s), upload them onto your computer, join "My Virtual Quilt" (via the "Requst Account" button above,) load your photos and start designing your quilt.  Or, you can upload all the photos of your quilt blocks, and arrange them as you make them, as I am doing with my Dear Jane quilts.  You will be able to make a block and store it away until it is time to sew the quilt together, thereby only handling it a couple of times.
Important: If you have used a block or pattern from a magazine, book, or other source, please give credit to the designer or book/magazine author in the "credits" section under the project name.  This will become obvious once you create your first project.
This website will allow you to;
  • create a permanent, password-protected account,
  • build a library of your own blocks by uploading a single image of each block,
  • build a library of material swatches for use as borders on your projects,
  • create new projects using a set of blocks and border swatches chosen from your library,
  • edit existing projects,
  • create a PDF of your finished (perhaps) project,
  • obtain reports of your block library, swatch library, projects, etc.,
  • share your projects with other MVQ members,
  • check to see who else is logged in,
  • send internal messages between MVQ members (without ANY spam :-)),) and
  • discuss your projects and general quilting topics on the MVQ forum.
  • read all about MVQ in the Help page.

Design Features
Once you have created a new project identifying the dimensions of the quilt and widths of borders and sashing and added images of the blocks and fabric swatches to be used, you can begin the design process.
While designing your quilt, MVQ allows you to;
  • place blocks from your project library anywhere on your grid or remove blocks from the grid with a simple mouse click,
  • select a solid color for your borders (inner or outer border), sashing, or cornerstones,
  • select a fabric from your swatch library for your borders, sashing, or cornerstones,
  • change the width of your borders or sashing,
  • display a larger and more detailed version of the current design (and create a PDF of the design)

 Offer to help
Creating the images of your blocks and swatch material will likely be one of the tasks that will take most time - and could easily generate some frustration trying to get things to look right for MVQ.   As a service to new users, we will offer to take up to five of your block/swatch images and edit them to be what is best for MVQ.  We will then send them back to you so you can see what is expected as source images for MVQ to use.  You can then send them up to MVQ for your project, of course.
Simply email your images to offer@MyVirtualQuilt.com. We'll confirm receipt of your request, process the images, and send them back ASAP.
Cost

MVQ is available on a yearly subscription basis for just $10.00/year. If your membership lapses, all projects that you have worked on within MVQ will be retained in the database for six months past the expiration date in the event that you decide to renew your membership. After the six-month period, your projects will be archived off-line - but still available. There is a $20 restoration fee to locate and restore your archived projects.
Payment can be made online via Paypal or via check or moneyorder. Go to the Contact page for details.

Plan for the Day!

Good morning!

Looks like it is going to be another nice day here. I need to go outside and water but I think I am going to have Gary take care of that since he is home.

I need to work in my sewing studio today to get caught up on my sewing. I need to work on
Sampler quilt,
Farmer's Wife Pony Club
Dear Jane BOW/TOW
Civil War Love Letter Quilt - CWLL

My goal today is to make at least 5 blocks of my CWLL quilt. We will see!

BUT first, I am trying to look for some plastic bins for my scraps. I am cutting my scraps into 1-1/2", 2-1/2", 3" and 3-1/2" squares. I want to separate them and put them in containers with a label so that ONE DAY I am going to use them. OR if I could use a few pieces if not ALL in a quilt.

I have been reading "Cut the Scraps" by Joan Ford. Wonderful book and I am actually following a lot of her ideas.
Now off to find some plastic containers.

UFO - Piece & Plenty

I just completed block 1 of Piece & Plenty Block of the Month(BOM) from Moda U. The BOM started in the year 2007-2008. YES I know, that was a loooong time ago. Hey, better late than never RIGHT? 8)

Relaxing Day 8)

It was a nice day today. Sun is out and quiet here. Imagine that! With all the cats and the two dogs here with me.

Anyway, I have been working on one of my UFO's. I am making a table runner out of my Stamped Spool blocks. I believe it was last year that I was in Jo Morton's Block swap and a few of us exchanged spool blocks. We had to purchase stamp from Cindy Blackberg. She designs wonderful stamps. To look at her wonderful stamps for fabric, go here . With exchange, we had to hand piece/sew each block.

Well here is a picture of my runner.

Now to select backing and ready to quilt. 8)
